Founders Message

My life has been greatly enriched through this hiking group.  I have met many interesting people and made new friends.  My goal is to expand and network through other states.  I would like to have different chapters of  "Trailblazers" established across the US.  If you or someone you know would be interested in establishing a new chapter, please contact me at .  I am also looking for reliable group leaders for intermediate and beginner levels for the Kanawha State Forest Wednesday evening fitness hikes.

KC Trailblazers Background

KC Trailblazers was founded in May 1997 by Teresa Blundell and co-founded by Gennet Thompson, Jennifer Buckalew and Allison Wood.  So many people ask me how we got started.  It was really by accident!  Gennet & I met one day at Kanawha State Forest to "get in shape".  She had roller blades and I had a mountain bike, neither vice versa.  We arrived to a nuisance rain and as a last resort hit the trails under the umbrella of the forest.  We were hiking and talking and lost track of time, not to mention miles!  So, 5 miles later we called it a workout.  The next day we both had sore muscles and decided we should go hiking again soon.  She told a friend about how much fun we had and Jennifer came along the next time.  Jennifer enjoyed it so much that she invited Allison.  As the guest list began to snowball from there I decided to make an "official" hiking group.  We extend the invitation beyond friends to the general public.  The idea for the name of the group came from the brand of my first pair of hiking shoes, trail makers (I had thought that they said trailblazers-oh well, the latter sounds better anyway).  Gennet added the KC, which stands for Kanawha County (our county of origin).  The rest is history in the making as we now extend our invitation a little further.  We now invite the world to share in our experiences as we begin our 4^th year in the 2000-hiking season.  Come join us.
